Article: ExCel centre “obvious choice” to convert into coronavirus hospital, says BDP

ExCel centre “obvious choice” to convert into coronavirus hospital says James Hepburn, of architecture and engineering firm BDP, which helped convert London’s ExCel centre into the 4,000-bed NHS Nightingale.

“It is going to be interesting to see how our government adjusts to the inevitable need for a huge number of hospital beds as Covid 19 takes hold. Based on the prompt and decisive manner that President Ramaphosa has handled the pandemic I am confident we will be able to react in a similar way to provide beds in our country. We have similar large convention centres in a few of our major cities so a similar tack could be taken.”
